We offer preconception counseling for patients with medical problems who would like to discuss how to manage their condition prior to becoming pregnant and address concerns they may have about their condition during pregnancy. Through preconception counseling, our health professionals help women optimize their health and get a medical condition under control. This may involve weight control, smoking cessation, and medication management to ensure that the most effective medication would also be safe in pregnancy. For many conditions, having the disease in good control prior to conception can protect against birth defects as well as keep the mother healthy.
Since your pregnancy is like a stress test that can unmask an illness or predict future disease, we maintain contact with your doctors and provide a smooth transition to your primary care provider after delivery. Follow-up is important because every baby deserves a healthy mother for the long-term.
We provide consultations for pregnant and non-pregnant patients with medical problems who are referred by obstetricians, gynecologists or other medical specialists.
The only program of its kind in the United States, the Specialty Care in Pregnancy Program (SCIPP) combines the expertise of obstetric medicine physicians with that of a number of other specialists including maternal-fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, internal medicine sub-specialists, nurses with critical care expertise, and pharmacists.
The SCIPP conference and clinic are held weekly and provide on-site collaboration from a multidisciplinary team. The result is recommendations for a collaborative plan for preconception, pregnancy, delivery and/or the postpartum period. We maintain contact with the patient's obstetrician and other health care providers throughout care.
We provide timely preoperative medical assessments for surgical patients, including pre-op testing such as pulmonary function testing (PFT), electrocardiograms (EKG), and echocardiograms (ECHO). We can coordinate communication with anesthesia, other specialists, and the patient's primary care physician.
We see pregnant and non-pregnant patients for echocardiogram testing to assess heart murmurs, evaluate pulmonary hypertension, evaluate for heart disease, and assess heart function. We also do timely echocardiogram testing for patients requiring preoperative assessment as well as pre- and post-chemotherapy baseline and follow-up testing.
Our board certified pulmonologist provides consultations for pregnant and non-pregnant patients. Some of the more common lung and breathing problems we treat include asthma, shortness of breath, sleep apnea, chronic lung disease and COPD. We provide preconception counseling and, if you are pregnant, we will follow you throughout your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period. At all times, we maintain contact with your primary physician.
We have a respiratory therapist on site which helps minimize the number of visits, by most often offering pulmonary function testing at the time of your visit. We also do timely pulmonary function testing and echocardiogram testing for patients requiring a preoperative assessment as well as pre- and post-chemotherapy baseline and follow-up testing.
