The Care New England Simulation Program at Women & Infants Hospital will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony to showcase its new location, which will allow the Program to schedule three separate simulations simultaneously.
"We are excited at the commitment Women & Infants and Care New England have shown to promoting simulation as a quality-based initiative," says Robin Shields, manager and simulation specialist with the Program.
The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2014, from 8 am to 5 pm, in the new space, which is located on the zero level at Women & Infants. At 10 am, Dennis Keefe, president and CEO of Care New England, will ceremoniously cut the ribbon on the facility.
"This new space gives us greater efficiency going forward," Shields says.
The Simulation Program has been housed in space that was the hospital's former neonatal intensive care unit, which is a series of bays opening off one central hub. The new space will enable the Program to host different types of simulations at the same time.
Shields and Program co-directors Jesse Bender, MD, of the Department of Pediatrics, and Kyle Wohlrab, MD, of the Center for Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, will be on hand during the open house to discuss the use of simulation in staff and physician education and demonstrate equipment used in different simulations.
