(Providence, RI) – Care New England Health System and Women & Infants Hospital are proud to unveil the new Brown University Labor & Delivery Center at Women & Infants Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide exceptional maternity care for families in Rhode Island and beyond. This addition marks a new era in maternal and neonatal care, offering expanded birthing options, cutting-edge technology, and a patient-centered approach to ensure the safest and most comfortable birth experiences.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at Women & Infants Hospital to celebrate this milestone in the evolution of obstetric care in Rhode Island. The newly constructed, three-story facility features 20 labor and delivery rooms, spacious birthing suites, advanced medical resources, and dedicated areas for healthcare professionals, including nurses’ stations, a staff lounge, and management offices. The center’s design reflects a commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation, providing an environment where every mother receives the highest quality of care tailored to her needs.

The new labor and delivery center is more than just a medical facility; it is a hub for groundbreaking research, education, and equitable care. The Women’s Health Research Institute will conduct pioneering studies to address disparities in maternal health, ensuring that all families have access to the best possible outcomes.

“The opening of the new labor and delivery center at Women & Infants Hospital represents a transformative moment in maternal and newborn care,” said Mike Wagner, MD, FACP, President and CEO of Care New England. “This facility embodies our unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, compassion, and innovation. Thanks to the dedication of our caregivers and the generosity of our community, we are elevating the birthing experience for families across the region.”

Shannon Sullivan, President and COO of Women & Infants Hospital, emphasized the impact this expansion will have on the region, saying, “For decades, families have placed their trust in Women & Infants Hospital. With this new center, we reaffirm our commitment to providing every mother with expert, high-quality care in an environment designed for comfort and safety. This is a significant step forward for both our hospital and the community we serve.”

"The campaign to build this new labor and delivery center began with a bold vision to transform the obstetric experience and create a birthing environment that truly reflects the exceptional care provided at Women & Infants Hospital. I am proud to have played a part in bringing that vision into reality with the help of our community who wholeheartedly supported this initiative,” said Judith Remondi, Chair of the Capital Campaign, Care New England Board Member, and Grateful Patient.

The ribbon-cutting event will be attended by key stakeholders from across our communities, including members of Care New England, Women & Infants Hospital, and Brown University’s leadership, campaign steering committee members, local and state elected officials, and representatives from Dimeo Construction Company.
