Psychiatrist Added to Staff

Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island announced the recent appointment of Carmen E. Colomer, MD, as a psychiatrist with the Center for Women’s Behavioral Health in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Colomer earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Puerto Rico Mayagȕez Campus, and a medical degree magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She completed her medical internship and psychiatry residency at the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program in Boston. This included training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Faulkner Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and various outpatient settings.

For the past four years, Dr. Colomer has worked in the Massachusetts community mental health system while maintaining an active supervisory and preceptor role for Harvard medical students and psychiatry residents. She has demonstrated commitment to treating underserved populations both locally and abroad and a strong interest in women’s mental health.

Dr. Colomer is board certified in adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society and the American Medical Association.
